1. 규칙

few, a few + 셀 수 있는 말 복수형

little, a little + 셀 수 없는 말

‘few / a few'는 셀 수 있는 말과 함께 쓰이며, 'few'는 ‘없다’는 부정적인 의미를, 'a few'는 ‘있다’는 긍정적인 의미를 가진다.

ex) He has few friends.  (그는 친구가 거의 없다) (부정)

     He has a few friends.  (그는 친구가 몇 있다) (긍정)

 

'little/ a little'은 셀 수 없는 말과 함께 쓰이면, ‘little'은 ’없다‘는 부정적인 의미를, ’a little'은 ‘있다’는 긍정적이 의미를 가진다.

ex) There is little water.  (물이 거의 없다) (부정)

     There is a little water.  (물이 약간 있다) (긍정)
