의미상 주어와 수동태

(1) 의미상 주어가 “행위의 주체”인 경우 : 능동태

(2) 의미상 주어가 "행위의 대상”인 경우: 수동태

■ 의미상 주어와 수동태 ■

수동태 문제풀이 [정답과 해설]

[1-25] 괄호 안에서 알맞은 말을 고르시오.

1. Lunch was (being served / serving) when we arrived.

해석 점심은 제공되었다/ 그가 도착했을 때.

해설 의미상 주어인 ‘lunch’는 ‘serve’할 수 없다. 점심은 제공되어야 하므로 수동태를 써야 한다.

해석 그는 자신에게 말했다, “나는 찾아야 한다/ 어딘가 잠잘 곳을, 왜냐하면 눈이 오기 때문이다.”

해설 ‘use’의 의미상 주어는 ‘antarctica(남극)’이다. 남극은 사물이므로 사용되어야 한다. 그러므로 수동의 의미를 가지고 있는 ‘과거분사’를 써야한다.

해설 ‘it’은 의미상 주어, ‘that’ 이하가 진주어이다. 해석을 보면 ‘that’이하라는 사실이 ‘믿어지는’ 관계이므로 수동태로 표현한다.
